MMTS, autorickshaws to ply from today from all over telangana districts

With all the 120 MMTS services and autorickshaws set to resume their operations from Monday, people in the city can look forward to some respite after being forced to depend on cabs and facing lot of inconvenience in the last couple of days.

South Central Railway authorities informed that all the MMTS trains will be operated as per regular schedule from the morning. And, many auto drivers began to operate their vehicles on different routes from Sunday evening itself after the two-day strike.

As for the RTC, it’s announced that they would continue the strike as their talks with the management had failed on Sunday.

“We will continue our indefinite strike,” said APSRTC NMU Telangana Forum Co-convenor K. Hanmanthu.

In view of the ‘rail roko’ call given by Telangana political JAC, the SCR had cancelled all the MMTS services. Extending their support to the Sakala Janula Samme, auto-rickshaws remained off the road till Sunday evening.

With majority of RTC buses confined to respective depots, commuters were forced to depend on cabs and goods transporting trolley auto-rickshaws for transportation. However, taking advantage of the situation, many cab drivers fleeced commuters by demanding exorbitant fares.

Usually, cab drivers charge Rs. 15 for travelling from Secunderabad to Begumpet but on Saturday and Sunday, they demanded Rs. 30 from commuters. Left with no choice, many commuters had to pay the fares.

APSRTC authorities claimed to have operated over 350 buses with police escorts for the convenience of candidates appearing for Group – I service examination at different centres in the city. They also informed that the same number of services would be operated on Monday as well for the convenience of general public, particularly employees.

“The Police Department is providing security to our buses and personnel. A convoy of six buses escorted by police jeeps in the front and back would be operated on different routes,” said APSRTC Greater Hyderabad Zone Executive Director A. Purushotam Naik.
