Eco-Friendly Clay Ganesha Idols at Hyderabad for Ganesh Chaturthi Festival 2011 – How & Where to Buy?
Society for Awareness and Vision on Environment (SAVE) is selling and inviting bookings for big Ganesh idols made of clay for Ganesh Chaturthi Festival 2011 in Hyderabad. The murtis are being created at the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) Nursery at Erragadda. The bigger idols for pandals would cost between Rs 1000 to 3,000 and the smaller idols will cost Rupees 1.

The initiative plans to prepare in clay 1,000 Ganesha idols measuring 5 feet for pandals and another 15,000 smaller ones.
According to Vijaya Ram, president of SAVE, the bigger idols would be made available at Rs.3,000 and the smaller idols at Re.1.
“The idea is to propagate the use of clay idols and ensure that water bodies are not affected from their immersion,” he said.
Artisans from Kolkata have been brought for the job of making these idols for which clay has been brought in from the banks of River Ganga.
Those buying the big idols would also be provided with khadi cloth for decoration of the idol, five cloth bags and posters on rain water harvesting.
“For carrying the smaller idols, we are getting specially prepared paper bags,” Mr. Vijaya Ram said.
