What is Hinduism? A brief introduction
Known as “Santana Dharma” in Sanskrit, the Hinduism is the world’s oldest organized and most profound religion.
It is the everlasting religion which was founded, exists and flourishes in India. It is not founded by a single leader and does not have a starting point in the history. It aims to explore the truth behind the existence and has several philosophies and theories to define that truth. It also has a set of rules for good living on this earth.
The Hindu religion has been shaped by many sages through iterating the teachings of the Vedas which was the main form of education in ancient times. It is believed that the Hinduism has its roots in the Indus valley civilization. It has been influenced by many invasions over thousands of years.
Many theories and ancient practices have been erased completely over the time. It is difficult to measure the antiquity of Hinduism. It is clear from the hymns of the Rig Veda that the Vedic Aryans and the Zoroastrians had a common origin. Later the two groups of Aryans separated after a violent quarrel which was referred as the fight between Asuras and Devas.
Asura became equivalent to a spirit of evil and Sura came to signify a good spirit.
