Huge support for Anna Hazare From Warangal
Academics, advocates and leaders of various political parties have come together in support of social worker Anna Hazare who has been on fast demanding a legislation to check corruption.
Leaders of various peoples’ organisations set up a tent at the Ambedkar statue and staged a demonstration, while some chose to undertake one-day fast expressing solidarity to Mr. Anna Hazare here on Thursday.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) legislator D. Sitakka said the Central government should have no objection to any legislation if it was demanded by the people. A strict legislation to prevent the rampant corruption was urgently needed in the country, she said. “The 2G spectrum scandal had baffled the whole country. The common man was losing confidence in the administration, and this could lead to unhealthy developments later, if not now,” she pointed out.
K. Venkatanarayana, professor in Kakatiya University, said he would move across the district and mobilise people in support of Mr. Anna Hazare who had been observing fast unto death.
Opposition failure
He said the 2G spectrum and other scandals, which rocked the country in the recent past, clearly exposed the hollowness of the political parties. “The opposition parties miserably failed to stand up and fight on behalf of people. No party was free from charges,” he observed.
Former Vice-Chancellor of Kakatiya University Vidyavathi, former legislator D. Saraiah, CPI district secretary T. Srinivasa Rao, and others were present.

Representatives of Lok Satta voluntary organisation, District Consumer Council, RTI Rakshana Vedika (whistle blowers), Lions Club, and others released a pamphlet against the corruption. Lok Satta NGO advisor I. Sridhar Rao, president N. Srinivas, secretary T. Rajamouli, Lions Club representative Prakash Holla, and Kola Anna Reddy distributed pamphlets in the town.
