The famed tribal festival of Sammakka-Sarakka jatara will be conducted in February 2012 in Medaram village in Eturunagaram mandal in Warangal district.

The jatara, which is held every two years, will be organised for four days from February eighth, next year. The decision was taken at a meeting by the organising committee along with the district officials on Thursday. Lakhs of tribal throng the jatara from all corners of the country.

While tribes from Warangal, Khammam, Adilabab and other districts of AP swarm the village for the four-day jatara, people from Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra will also come in thousands to take part in the festival. The tribal pitch make-shift tents in and around the village during the jatara and worship the tribal goddesses of Sammakka and Sarakka.

Sammakka Jatara is celebrated once in two years . It is the second largest religious congregation after the Maha Kumbh Mela with about 7 million pilgrims attending the jatara .Purnima Sammaka is a tribal goddess and the patrons and the priests are Koyas. There is no permanent idol of the deity.

A large sea of humans is seen at Medaram.The goddess of Sammakka is brought from village Chilukalagutta and Sarakka is brought from village Kanneboyinapalle, in form of vermilion and placed on a platforms called Gaddelu. On this Occasions Thousands of people take holy dip at the Jampanna vagu before proceeding to the shrines of Sammakka Sarakka.

It is a special ritual of weighing against jagerry, called as Bangaram and observed in the jatara where the person offers his weight jaggery to the goddesses. During this festival thousands of cocks and goats are sacrificed on the name of deities. All the people dress in colorful attires and sing glories of Sammakka and Sarakka.

On this day those prople who fulfill vows offer jaggery equal to their weight and jaggery is distributed as prasadam. More than lakh of people congregate every day.

This exam is going to be conducted for all X class students either studying SSC/CBSE or ICSE (March 2012) and will be conducted in English, Telugu and Urdu languages.

First prize for the winners will be laptop, second prize desktop computer and the third prize will be E book readers and district toppers will be given scientific calculators. Mahboob Husain Jigar medals along with the merit certificates will be given to top 22 students from each district including district topper.

A special award will be given to Urdu topper from among Urdu medium students. Laptop will be awarded to state toppers’ schools. The 22 toppers will also be given scholarships.
