How to reach Medaram?

From Hyderabad one can reach Medaram via Warangal. Warangal is at a distance of 130 kms from Warangal and from there it is 110 kms to Medaram. Warangal is well connected with trains and buses from all parts of Andhra Pradesh. From Warangal one can take RTC buses or taxis or trains which will take the passengers up to Nalgonda railway station to reach Medaram. Nearby railway station to Medaram is Nalgonda Railway station which is at a distance of 54 km, Srirampuram Railway station at a distance of 56 km, Macheral railway station which is 56 kms and Tipparthi railway station which is at a distance of 60 kms from Medaram. RTC buses take the passengers up to Medaram. Nearby Air ports of Medaram are Warangal airport, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, and Vijayawada Airport. Nearby cities are Warangal and Hanamkonda.

Visitors who come from Lakhnavaram to Medaram should reach Pasra travelling on the main road. From there a left turn is to be taken and Medaram is 24 kms from Pasra. There is another route from Pasra in which tourists should travel 13 kilometers and reach Tadvai and from there they have to take a left turn and travel 14 kms to reach Medaram

APSRTC will operate more than 1,000 buses to Medaram during the Sammakka Saralamma jatara that begins on 8^th February, 2012. From Mahatma Gandhi bus station one luxury bus will leave for every twenty minutes. APSRTC will run buses from all the districts of Telangana to Warangal for Medaram Jatara.

After the Lok Sabha passed a Lokpal Bill that Team Anna is extremely unhappy with, Anna Hazare’s health is becoming a major cause of concern for both his team and the government. At the end of his first day of hungerstrike, Anna’s fever had climbed to 102 degrees and his blood pressure was 170/104.

However, Anna’s temperature came down slightly on Wednesday morning, the second day of his three-day fast. Team Anna member Manish Sisodia said Anna’s temperature was 100 degrees in the morning. But, doctors are still urging the 74-year-old Gandhian to end his fast.

Doctors will take a decision on whether Anna should be moved to a hospital in the morning today.

Anna’s family physician Dr Anirudh Dharmadhikari wants him to end the fast.

“He is stubborn and is sticking to his fast. In this state, it is wrong of him to fast. We might need to hospitalise him because he is coughing, has fever,” he said on Tuesday night.

Doctors from Mumbai’s JJ Hospital are stationed now at his camp at MMRDA Grounds and an ambulance is on stand-by.

Anna is fasting for three days at the Mumbai’s MMRDA Ground in protests of what he and his team call a ‘weak’ Lokpal Bill. After ending his fast on December, Anna and his group of social activists plan to head to the national capital where they will launch a ‘jail bharo’ movement by protesting in front of the houses of Congress leaders like Sonia Gandhi and her son, Rahul Gandhi.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has requested Anna to end his fast and so have his team members. Anna’s aides Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi appealed to him to end his fast.

“He has fever, let us request him to stop his fast. Anna can continue his dharna,” Ms Bedi said.

“Anna is unwell. Will you request Anna to withdraw his fast?” she asked the crowd, which responded with a loud “Yes”.

However, Anna, waved his hand to indicate he will not change his mind.

Anna’s family is also worried about his health and have also not eaten anything. The family of Maruti Hazare, Anna’s younger brother, revealed their frustration with the whole situation.

“On one hand they say they want to make India a super democracy and on the other hand this happens,” said Nisha, Maruti Hazare’s granddaughter Residents of Anna’s village, Ralegan Siddhi, have also expressed their concern and will visit him today. On Tuesday afternoon at the MMRDA Ground, Anna gave an impassioned speech about the Lokpal Bill.

He reiterated his opposition to the government for betraying the country. Anna said if politicians don’t rise to the occasion, he will campaign against the Congress. “There are elections in a few states, but what will they do to us at the national level (is what the government thinks). But in these five states that are voting, we will campaign against the government. You have not seen what people power is. It is more powerful than Parliament.”

He also stressed the need for electoral reforms. “The sort of people who are joining politics now are criminals, goondas. What will become of our country then? This is why we need to fight for the Right to Reject (electoral candidates). There are 10 candidates standing for elections. Yet, voters have nobody to choose from. So we should have the right to say “none of the above.” And if there are many who choose this option, then the election for that constituency should be cancelled. We will have to fight for these laws.”

Anna Hazare will on Tuesday begin his three-day fast against the “weak” Lokpal Bill tabled by the government in Parliament.

Hazare, who reached here last night from his village Ralegan Siddhi, will pay respects at Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Juhu and proceed to the fast venue, MMRDA ground, in suburban Bandra in a rally.

Amid concerns over his health as he was suffering from viral infection, Hazare had yesterday said he will go ahead with his protest and claimed that his movement was not against any side, person or party.

“Although today is a working day, we are confident about offering a strong, overwhelming reception to our 74-year -old veteran, who is leaving no stone unturned for the betterment of our very own future,” an IAC spokesperson said.

The rally will pass through Santacruz, Tulip Star hotel, Mithibai college, S V Road, Vile Parle, Khar and Bandra Highway.

Maharashtra government has said all necessary security arrangements have been made for the stir in Mumbai.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) U C Sarangi chaired a high-level meeting yesterday where he reviewed the law and order situation and security scenario in the city ahead of Hazare’s fast.

Police have fortified the fast venue by deploying 2000 police constables and 200 sub-inspectors of police, six platoons of state reserve police force, three teams of Quick Response Team and two Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads.

The ground has six emergency exits, 16 fire extinguishers, six metal detector units and round-the-clock ambulance services.

It was on this day exactly two years ago that the central government announced that the “process for carving out a separate state of Telangana” was being initiated but it has not moved a few steps beyond that. The fallout of Home Minister P Chidambaram’s statement on Telangana forced the Government of India to constitute a five-member Justice Srikrishna Committee to look into the statehood demand.

The panel submitted its report within the prescribed period (December 31, 2010). But the situation in the state has polarised so much that the politial leaders of the two regions (Telangana and Andhra-Rayalaseema) are not seeing eye-to-eye and and an uneasy relationship prevails on the ground. State Ministers hailing from one region have stopped visiting the other region apparently fearing a backlash from the public. “It is undeniable that a hostile atmosphere grew between the two regions of the state in the last two years. Also, the hypocrisy of all the political parties (on the statehood issue) has been exposed to the people,” political commentator Prof G Haragopal said. “The December 9, 2009 statement by Chidambaram had created new hopes and aspirations among the people of Telangana and also led to many unexpected developments. “Unrest grew among people as their aspirations were not realised even as the political parties have been pushed into an existential crisis,” Haragopal said. Developments in the last two years have taught a “new political lesson” to the people of Andhra Pradesh and also created the need for emergence of a new political force, the academic remarked.

On the other hand, the economic loss suffered by the state because of the statehood imbroglio has been immeasurable. The revenue loss to the state government in just the 2010-11 financial year was a whopping Rs 9,652 crore. Sources in the state Finance Department say the amount could be well over Rs 15,000 crore between December 2009 and now. “Both the government and the private sectors suffered a loss of Rs 30,000 crore in the last two years because of the agitation for a separate state,” MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi pointed out, a fact endorsed by industrialists. “The ambiguity and indecisiveness on part of the government is hurting more and stifling growth. The negative impact of all this will be felt more in coastal Andhra in future,” Confederation of Indian Industry leader Y Harishchandra Prasad noted.

Not a single industry worth the name has come up either in Telangana or in other parts of the state in the last two years whereas several multi-national companies like Peugeot changed their track to neighbouring states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

First time YS Vijayamma’s speech in Assembly on No-Confidence Motion Part-1

The famed tribal festival of Sammakka-Sarakka jatara will be conducted in February 2012 in Medaram village in Eturunagaram mandal in Warangal district.

The jatara, which is held every two years, will be organised for four days from February eighth, next year. The decision was taken at a meeting by the organising committee along with the district officials on Thursday. Lakhs of tribal throng the jatara from all corners of the country.

While tribes from Warangal, Khammam, Adilabab and other districts of AP swarm the village for the four-day jatara, people from Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra will also come in thousands to take part in the festival. The tribal pitch make-shift tents in and around the village during the jatara and worship the tribal goddesses of Sammakka and Sarakka.

The Warangal Municipal Corporation was set to become bigger. The town would soon be accorded the greater status on the lines of Greater Hyderabad and Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporations.

It was proposed to merge 42 villages around the Warangal Municipal Corporation into the Ccorporation to make it Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation.

A communication in this connection was sent to local authorities by the Municipal Department secretary Vijay Kumar.
He directed the district administration to give a public notification, that the issue which was pending for the past two years was set to be resolved.

It was said that there had been objections from some political sections on the merger of the villages into the Corporation.
In order to solve the issue the government decided to go by the provisions of sections 2 and 3 of Andhra Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act 1994.

With this the district administration would solicit objections and suggestions on the matter from the public within the 10 days of issuing the notification.

Following which a report would be prepared by the District Collector, who has to approve the merger as he holds the position of Municipal Corporation special officer. “This is really good news for us and it paves the way for development of tri-cities” said P Rajanikanth, a resident.

It might be noted that on September 10, 2009 the then council of the City Municipal Corporation passed a resolution to merge 42 villages from five mandals around the town. This would increase the size of the town by two times, official sources.

The present area of the town was 110 square km and it would be increased to 250 square kilometres with the merger of 42 villages, according to the town planning officials.

Likewise, the size of the population would also swell to 10 lakh from the present 6.20 lakh as per 2011 census.

Nineteen villages from Hanamkonda mandal, eight villages each from Hasanparthy and Geesukonda mandals, two villages from Dharmasagar mandal and three villages from Sangem mandal would be merged with the Warangal corporation, if everything goes as planned.

With the greater status accorded to the Warangal Municipal Corporation, it would be a field day to the real estate brokers in the town as the prices and demand for the lands would shoot up.

Finally, the state government has begun efforts for formation of Greater Warangal. Despite political objections, the notification for Greater Warangal has been issued. It is learnt that BC welfare minister Baswaraju Saraiah has been instrumental in this.

Warangal municipal corporation incharge commissioner Shankar said the notification has been put on display at the offices of the corporation, RDO, tahsildars, mandal parishads and village panchayats. “Objections and suggestions on the notification would be accepted for a week,” he said. Greater Warangal will see merger of 42 panchayats 19 in Hanamkonda mandal, two in Dharmasagar mandal, 10 in Hasanparti mandal, three in Sangem mandal and eight in Geesukonda with the corporation.
